Here’s a great lesson that applies to direct mail. Ready? Some people say one thing and do the opposite.
In other words …
One shouldn’t pay attention to what people say they’ll do as much as what they actually DO.
For example, it seems most readers of the National Enquirer don’t want to admit they read it. Just ask people, “You read that tabloid stuff?”
“No way! Not me.”
Maybe they’re afraid of looking silly to others? Maybe their embarrassed to admit buying a paper with headlines like, “Brad Runs To Jen As Angelina Lays Down The Law.”
Perhaps they fear people will think they’re too shallow? Un-sophisticated?
Doesn’t matter.
What matters to the National Enquirer, of course, is that millions of readers each week buy it. Whether folks admit to reading tabloids or not there are a whole lot of those papers being sold. So the old rule applies… Don’t pay attention to what people SAY they do as much as what they DO.
What’s this got to do with direct mail?
Plenty.
If anyone should LOVE direct mail it would be a magazine editor. Direct mail is used to sell millions of magazine subscriptions each year.
But check out what William Baldwin – - editor of Forbes magazine – - wrote in the July 4th 2005 issue:
“The junk mail industry, says Chana Schoenberger in the story beginning on page 90, is giving a new lease on life to Xerox. This firm sells a $500,000 color printer ideal for customized advertising circulars.
Junk is a lucrative sector of the ad business, with a $51 billion annual volume that dwarfs the outlays for magazine advertising. Lucrative, and wasteful. I don’t know if the catalogs I get from Land’s End cost more to make than the shirts, but surely they weigh more.
Between printing and mailing it costs at least half a buck to send a first-class pitch to someone. If 90% of the recipients chuck the envelope unopened into a wastebasket, then the pitchman is spending $5 just to get one advertisement read. Isn’t there a better way of getting people’s attention?…”
Now… please ignore the fact Mr. Baldwin writes this even as he gets a Land’s End catalog in the mail.
This means, of course, that either he, or his wife probably bought something from it. Which is why he continues getting a Land’s End catalog in the mail regularly.
Also ignore the fact that direct mail sales letters have been used to launch prominent magazine-publishing empires over the years.
Mr. Baldwin says direct mail is lucrative (for the “junk mail industry”) yet wasteful (for those using it) at the same time. Am I missing something here? Doesn’t he know much advertising is “wasteful”, and direct mail sellers only mail things out over and over again because it’s profitable?
How many advertising dollars are spent (and wasted) targeting people who won’t buy because they’re not the right audience for the sales pitch? How much ad money is wasted paying for commercials on T.V. nobody watches?
Direct Mail is Targeted Marketing
There’s no better… or more cost efficient way… of reaching those most interested (and most likely to buy) your product or service than direct mail. And after you reach the person most likely to buy you’re able to hit all their emotional hot buttons. Give them all the reasons they should buy from you. Tell them your story. Person-to-person.
Is there any waste? Sure there is.
People live busy lives. Even if your sales pitch reaches the right person it may not reach them at the right moment in time.
They might not have time to read it today. Or this week. They might not be ready to buy again. Your pitch might end up in the trash before it even gets read.
Overall … doesn’t matter. Know why?
Because if you’ve mailed correctly a certain percentage of prospects are going to read your pitch. They’re going to respond they way you want them to.
They’re going to buy … or call for more information … or send for the free sample.
You’re going to be offering people something they want. Maybe even something that makes their life easier. Or helps them out in some way. Or lets them be more productive. Or enhances their quality of life somehow.
So how do you know if direct mail is good for you?
Well … despite everything you may have read about response rates … the test is simple.
First thing though … forget about the fact everyone says they don’t like getting “junk” mail. The majority of people who get lots of “junk” mail (and say they don’t like it) get on mailing lists after buying something through the mail.
Now …
Determine beforehand if a mailing can make money on paper … then do a live test mailing. If, for example, you get a 16% response rate but your overall mailing costs exceed your net profits then your mailing is a failure.
Bottom line … if your net profits from a direct mail campaign are a lot higher than your costs to do the mailing then you’ve got a winner.
Some direct mail companies run successful advertising campaigns with less than a 1% response rate. They mail millions of ad pieces. But their mailing costs are low relative to their huge profits – - even with low response rates.
Response rates aren’t nearly as important as actual profit margins.
Small businesses usually can’t keep mailing costs extremely low. If you don’t mail tens-of-thousands of pieces you won’t be able to get letters and envelopes printed in bulk for pennies-a-piece. Don’t let that bother you.
If the numbers work … and your product or service is priced right … then maybe only a few orders out of every 100 sales letters will make money.
So what are you waiting for?
Sit down. Work the numbers. Do a test mailing.
I bet if you think about it hard enough you’ll be able to figure out a way to make direct mail work for you. If you need some help contact me. And don’t worry about what people say. Pay attention to what they do.

Are you frustrated with spending your hard-earned money on Google Adwords and losing more money than you make? Part 2 of this series continues revealing the inside secrets of successful, profitable advertising with Google Adwords.
If you missed Part 1 or Part 3 of this series, simply send a blank email to googlearticle@superiormarketingpartners.com to get a all three parts of this series of articles emailed back to you automatically.
Secret #4 – Make separate AdGroups for each keyword within Google Adwords
Google Adwords lets you create up to 25 campaigns per account, with up to 100 AdGroups per campaign as of this writing. It’s important to organize your keywords into separate AdGroups to maintain finer control over the ad text for each keyword. If you had one AdGroup for the following keywords: ‘widgets’, ‘plastic widgets’, and ‘wooden widgets’, then the ads created for that AdGroup would have to apply to all of the above keywords.
If your ad text reads: “50% off all plastic widgets” and this ad is showing for the other keyword phrases in the same AdGroup, then someone searching for ‘wooden widgets’ probably will not be inclined to click on your ad that is focused on people searching for ‘plastic widgets’.
The way to be sure each ad is focused on the exact keyword phrase being targeted is to have a separate AdGroup within your Google Adwords account for each keyword phrase, and ad text that exactly matches that phrase. For example, an AdGroup named ‘Plastic Widgets’ with the keywords ‘plastic widget’ and ‘plastic widgets’ can have an ad with text that reads “50% off all plastic widgets” and the people searching for ‘plastic widgets’ will see the ad most relevant to their search term. Create a separate AdGroup for ‘wooden widgets’, etc. Now you can create ads with text that matches the exact keyword phrase for which people are searching.
Secret #5 – Run tons of keywords in Google Adwords
Most people that have Google Adwords accounts find the top keyword phrases for their industry and run ads for only those keywords. This is a big mistake. The top keywords are the ones that have the most competition and also the lowest click-thru rates. Smart Google Adwords marketers know that the more specific a keyword phrase is the more people will click on the ad. People that search for a keyword like ‘widgets’ are more likely to skip over an ad targeting such a broadly targeted keyword. However, ‘large plastic widgets’ is much more of a refined search and there are far fewer advertisers with ads that target that phrase so you get the double benefit of having fewer ads in competition with yours and you can also run ad text that exactly matches that keyword phrase!
Doing keyword research and compiling a large list of keywords may be time consuming, but you will run rings around your competition if you are willing to do what they are not.
Secret #6 – Split-test your ads in Google Adwords
As mentioned in Part 1 of this series of articles on Google Adwords, it is critical to split-test your ads. Google Adwords has a built-in feature that lets you automatically rotate the appearance of your ads so different ads can be shown an equal number of times (or weighted more heavily toward the ad that gets more clicks if you prefer – you can change this in the campaign settings). The benefit of this approach is that you will be able to see which ad gets a better click-thru rate (CTR).
Since Google Adwords rewards a higher CTR with lower cost per click (CPC), it is crucial that you know which ad has a better CTR. Sometimes just swapping the ad text that appears on lines 2 and 3 will make a big difference in your ad performance.
Secret #7 – Improve your ads in Google Adwords
So what do you do if you find that after split-testing two different ads a clear winner emerges? Simple. Chuck the lower CTR ad, keep the winner, and create a new ad to split-test against the current reigning champion. By following this split-test strategy, you will constantly be improving your ads CTR and lowering your CPC.
How do you know when a clear winner has emerged? Is it enough to have two ads that both have received 10 clicks each? Or should you wait until you have 100 clicks each before making the determination that one ad is superior to the other? Statistically, a total of 100 clicks between the two ads will mean the answer is fairly certain, while 200 clicks between both ads is an almost definite certainty.
What’s stopping you from finding qualified, motivated buyers and getting them to your website when they are ready to buy? There is no better marketplace for this steady stream of valuable traffic than with Google Adwords. By employing the tips and strategies outlined in this series of articles, you will be armed to the teeth to convert those hard earned dollars spent on Google Adwords into profits for your online business!

There is a common saying that whenever you are presented with a problem or a challenge, you should turn it into an opportunity. Some of the people who have mastered this concept are; the United States Government, Large Corporations, Self Made Millionaires.
Was Y2K really a threat? Loot at all the companies that made a fortune helping you to become Y2K compliant. When it came right down to the wire nothing happened according to the predictions, we all remained on the Internet, our computers did not crash.
Michelangelo virus was yet another example; mass devastation was forecasted, yet few really got hit with the virus, but the software companies raked it in with increased sales for anti virus software to consumers in a panic.
The latest is the creation of email postage, as ridiculous as this concept sounds this is just yet another example of big corporations coming up with more and more ways to get the American public to bow to control. The general idea behind this is to charge email marketers postage on each email sent out. The bill died pretty quickly but now we have yet another bill called the Can/Spam Act just enacted. With this for an email marketer it would mean annunci gratuiti exorbitant rates just to have the privilege of reaching their recipients. Who is behind this? The answer should be obvious; it is big corporations like Microsoft and AOL. I believe Microsoft is charging approximately a $1400.00 licensing fee to email marketers if they wish to be able to deliver their advertisements with MSN or Hotmail email addresses.
If that is not bad enough check out the latest with Identity Theft issues. It seems as though because of the problem being so huge, Credit card companies are now offering Identity Theft protection, yes you can get insurance now incase your identity is stolen, which of course you must pay for. Lets look at this concept for a minute, if you dont want to lose a bundle getting hit by an ID thief and you cannot be guaranteed your information will stay private, though the Privacy Act demands it, you must pay for protection.
When you sign up for an account with a Credit Card company and have to give them your personal information, they are supposed to protect that information from leaking out to those who could use it against you. What is even worse is when it really does happen, it involves so many innocent people not just one, that law enforcement officers tend to misunderstand what is really going on and tend to re-victimize innocent victims. In some recent cases Victims have actually been accused of crimes themselves and had to defend themselves against judicial systems that are failing to recognize the problem for what it is. They are falsely accused and jailed in some cases for crimes they did not commit, all because a thief took it upon himself to wreak havoc on one persons life.
The character in Mel Gibsons Conspiracy Theory would have a field day with this information. So herein lies the proof that every situation has potential to be turned into opportunity given the right attention be paid, and the drive take the steps to make it happen.

In the world of web design, there are plenty of mistakes you can make, and in this article, I’m going to look at what I believe to be the top 10 biggest. You need to check your site for these mistakes right now, and fix them if they’re there – otherwise you’re going to be annoying your visitors and driving them away from your site.
1. Unclear Layout and Navigation. Many websites, especially business sites, seem to suffer from some kind of disease where even the very simplest task takes ten steps to achieve. If people are emailing you to ask you how to do things on your site, then you need to improve your layout and navigation. Remember: if there are certain tasks people seem to want to do more often, put them on the front page.
2. Plugin Overload. You’ve got to keep media that uses plugins to a strict maximum of one per page: that means that if you’ve got Flash, then you can’t have a media player, or if you’re using Java then you can’t have Flash. It’s not as bad to use the same plugin twice, however.
3. Unclear Linking. You might think it looks better to only show links when people put their mouse over them, or not make their colour stand out too much from the rest of the text, but it’s not – while it might make the design look nicer, it makes it far less usable. Use a clearly contrasting colour for links, and preferably underline them.
4. Too Many Ads. When you’re trying to make money from your website, it’s all too easy to try to fit in more ads than you really should, or start using ad formats that are too intrusive. If you’ve put a new ad on your site, go to the site as if you were a visitor, and ask yourself honestly: is this just too much?
5. Strange Fonts. Stick to the most common web fonts: that’s pretty much just Arial, Georgia, Tahoma and Verdana. If you’re using more obscure fonts, then most visitors probably won’t have them – and the ones that do will find your text hard to read. The only time you should use non-standard fonts is in your logo or in headings, if they are displayed as an image.
6. Flash Intros. Please, don’t use a Flash intro on your website. You’d think everyone would realise they’re a bad idea by now, but every web designer still gets clients who just don’t seem to realise that Flash intros are universally mocked and hated. Don’t be one of those people.
7. Unlabelled Email Links. It’s a very bad idea to ever use a link that will send email (a mailto link) without clearly marking it with the word ‘email’. If you just make clicking people’s names send email, you’ll annoy visitors who just clicked wanting to find out more about the person.
8. Broken Links. You’ve got to check all your links regularly to make sure that they all still work. There’s nothing worse than finding a site that looks useful, only to find that it hasn’t been updated in years and none of the links work any more. Yes, a website does mostly run itself after a while, but that doesn’t mean that you should neglect the essential maintenance it needs from time to time.
9. No Marking for External Links. There are two kinds of links: internal (to other parts of your website) and external (to other websites). For the benefit of your visitors, though, it’s best if you mark external links, either by making them a different colour or using some kind of a symbol (a box with an arrow is the usual one). It’s also good to make the external links open in new windows, so people aren’t leaving your site altogether when they click them.
10. Badly-sized Text. It’s important to keep your text around the standard size (preferably just below). Making text too big or too small makes it hard to read and annoying for many visitors. The best thing you can do is use relative text sizing (not pixels) that allows the browser to respect the user’s preferred text size. You might also consider offering buttons on your site to decrease or increase the size.

Ever thought about making extra income or some extra cash to spend on holidays? Don’t feel like getting a part time job that will require you to go to work and actually be there to earn? I have been in that situation and have been searching over the net or local businesses for someone to pay me for what I do the best online. That is get paid to simply take surveys that come into your email once in a while or even if your interest is the same as of what the survey providers wants, you will get paid 4-5 paid surveys with each worth $5-$100! (I once get a jackpot lucky and received $200 for a survey I completed, yes $200 for ONE survey). If you are also free and willing to make some more extra, you can always go for phone surveys. I always get offers for phone surveys but since I don’t feel like talking on the phone that much and since I am not really good at doing work by phone, I simply deny the offer. (BUT if you have the it in you in socializing and/or having a sweet angelic, smooth voice over the phone, that phone survey is for you!)
Also if there are no surveys you can always go into focus groups of your desire category and get paid to simply being active in the group discussions. No need to worry about what others think about your opinions and everyone is willing to listen to each other’s thoughts. You even get paid for what you do the best! Expressing your thoughts! Isn’t that awesome? You get paid for your ideas!! And that, I am really good at giving advice and generating reasonable pocket money a week to spend on the holidays! Have to love the $20/hour for 2 days a week income!
I do not want to recommend the paid to shop offer though and only shop if you really want the item and not for the sake of receiving money to shop. Paid to shop offers are only worth it if you really need the product you are planning to buy.
But again ignoring the paid shopping offer wouldn’t hurt you at all! Trust me. You can still get paid for writing feedbacks, and reviews on the survey programs and other websites, and still earn $10 per review or even more! (My favorite is paid feedbacks and reviews).
Oh yeah also guess what? You get paid for watching movie trailers! Yes you heard it right! Get paid to watch movies. Believe it or not, I have seen some commercials and movies before they are even out in box offices and or even in public theaters!!
THERE are many more to say about this paid to program but I am tired (to tell the truth, I can’t think about where to start and end talking about it!). So I will let you check out the site offering all those great extra cash opportunities and you can read more about it there and read other testimonials!

Traffic generation is one of the most talked about, most needed, and probably the area where people waste the most amount of money. The ability to generate traffic to your website is a significant factor that determines a websites online success. There are many ways to generate traffic to your site and I’ll discuss a few here. One thing to keep in mind when generating traffic is this. It is not so much the amount of traffic you generate but the quality of that traffic that is more important. When I say quality traffic I mean targeted traffic. Having visitors to your site who are interested in what you have to offer is a far cry from just anyone stopping by.
While there are ways to jumpstart your traffic flows, many sites don’t have the resources that others have to increase web site traffic. When your first starting out online it can be hard to generate traffic to your site let alone targeted traffic. One of the quickest ways to generate traffic when first starting out is through writing and submitting articles. Article marketing is a powerful source of generating traffic and generating back links to your website. We’ll discuss backlinks in a moment but first let’s talk about article marketing.
As I stated above, article marketing is a powerful source of generating traffic and generating back links to your website. Article marketing of course is the process of writing articles and submitting them to the various online article directories and websites that accept articles for the purpose of generating direct traffic and back links to your website. When submitting articles to the article directories you are allowed to leave an author bio. In this author bio you can write a short call to action, use your writing skills to make someone want to click through to your site, and leave an actual link to your site. When the article directories publish your articles, you receive backlinks to your web site thus generating traffic.
The really great thing about submitting articles to directories is that after it is published other site owners can post that article on their site. For a site owner to post your article on their site they have to also post the author’s bio as well. And of course with the author’s bio comes a direct link back to your site. This can be done by tens and even hundreds of site webmaster’s all creating backlinks and generating traffic to your site.
Another way to drive traffic to your site is through one-way or reciprocal links. There are three ways to acquire links: (1) you can pay for them; (2) you can join a free link exchange; and/or (3) you can manually add links. Some examples of attaining one-way links would be through article marketing, writing press releases and submitting your site to directories. Building incoming links done properly will repay the effort and your site will not be subject to the whims of the search engines.
As your number of backlinks increases, your web site will rise in search engine rankings for the keywords around which your web site is optimized. The more links you have pointing to your website, the higher your Page Rank may be. The amount of traffic that can be attained from being on the first page of the Google results for a particular search term is tremendous. Let’s discuss what search engines are and what they can do for your site’s traffic needs.
The search engines are the primary sources of site traffic. The search engines take a customer’s desired keyword(s) and provides them with the most relevant results it can find. These search engines are major providers of free web site traffic and can assist even small online businesses to operate successfully.
The core way to ranking high in the search engines is though the development of a linking strategy. The more relevant and high quality sites your have directly linking to you the better. The incoming links you have to your site will tell the search engines you are important and therefore place you higher in their search results. The higher you are in the results the more traffic you will receive, guaranteed.
Traffic generation is of course important because without traffic, you generally do not have a business. Traffic generation is a significant factor that determines a websites online success. Many big companies generate tens of thousands of visitors a day and a measly ten to fifteen percent actually buys, but that small percentage is enough to provide them with good business. The key is to drive as much targeted traffic to your site as possible. Do this and your business will thrive.

As a result, there are many, many things to do for entertainment, both during the day and after dark. If you enjoy new kinds of beers, for instance, you can go to The Map Room on N. Hoyne Avenue. These beers are on tap, too. There is a rock club called Delilah’s on N. Lincoln Avenue and a blues club at the Kingston Mines on N. Halsted Street. You can check out some good jazz at The Velvet Lounge on S. Indiana Avenue. And if bluegrass is your thing, try out The Hideout on W. Wabansia.
If you don’t want to hang out in your condo but you don’t want to leave the building either, go hang out on the rooftop sundeck and check out the glorious Chicago skyline. If you do want to hang out in the outdoors, then check out nearby Lake Michigan and the surrounding parks.
This is a great time to get in on a condo like these Museum Park Chicago condos. The community is well-established as a successful one, yet it’s still growing, so prices are still really good. Preconstruction purchases are still an option at this point as well, which is a great money-saver. Foresight is the key to buying great property.

One of the most effective ways to employ promotional items is as part of a coordinated marketing campaign. Choosing a set of coordinating promotional gifts for prospective customers, employees or loyal, continuing clients is a great way to build business relationships that keep growing. Here are five steps to building a coordinated promotional giving campaign that will pay off in increased sales and good will.
Plan your campaign in advance. Start by deciding the purpose of your marketing campaign. Some specific purposes that lend themselves to promotional items include
- introducing a new product or business – building a continuing relationship with a new customer – increasing good will with loyal customers – wooing customers away from competitors – offering incentives to your employees – publicizing and solidifying your name brand awareness
Choose gifts that make sense for your business. The promotional items that you choose should be easily identifiable with your business and company, and targeted at your specific market. Do you supply products for gyms and health clubs? Then your campaign for building relationships with new customers might include promotional items like water bottles, imprinted towels and kit bags with your company’s logo on them.
Create the campaign, then choose the promotional items to match. Are you planning a grand opening for your new business? Try a tactic used by many businesses to bring customers in for special events. Send out a mass mailing to prospective customers that includes part of a promotional duo and invite them to come in to redeem the rest of the gift. One idea might be to send out uninflated balloons in different colors along with a flyer inviting the recipient to bring the balloon in to be inflated and redeem a color-coded free gift to match the balloon.
Work with a professional promotions planner or supplier. One way to make sure that your promotional campaign is effective is to work with a professional who has experience. This is especially helpful if you’ve never planned a promotion before. A professional promotions supplier can offer suggestions and ideas that will wow your prospective customers.
Plan the major events that will trigger promotional giving. Creating a coordinated promotional gifts campaign can cement budding business relationships. There are certain points in your business relationship where giving a gift makes sense – introducing your company, a thank you gift for the first order, a special thank you when they exceed a predetermined landmark (£500 in sales, the tenth order), holiday gifts and special anniversaries or promotions.
Scale the gifts to the event being commemorated. Corporate holiday gifts should obviously be on a different scale than “thanks for your business” gifts, and the reward for completing thirty days of work without an absence considerably smaller than that for being the top seller in a division.
Branded apparel is an excellent choice as employee incentives. A range of apparel imprinted with the company logo lends itself beautifully to an employee incentive program. It scales, it’s memorable and it gives the employee a sense of belonging and identity with the company.
No matter what your reason for embarking on a marketing campaign using promotional giveaways, you’ll find the gifts that you’re looking for at Ideasbynet, where there are thousands of promotional items in all price ranges and types to choose from.

I want to tell you about my experience of earning money from bookmakers in order to reveal you the truth about this dirty business. I do not want that you repeat the same mistakes that cost me 2 wasted years of life:
Sleepless nights, health problems, a huge debt is only the most demonstrative part of it!
As odd as it might seem, first I familiarized myself with bookmakers only three years ago when seeking a better life I moved to Ireland in order to start a new nice life… in a clothing warehouse!!! I still do not understand how I could work at this place for such a long time! Already in the very beginning the work drove me to despair – every day I got up at 5 in the morning in order to go to the ,,Primark” warehouse and spent the rest of the day in dust piling boxes with pieces of clothing that had been made in China by exploited people. Each day one and the same, one and the same – wasting my time and health I made millions for those above, white collars. However, now it is all the same to me because I earn more than they! And I am free… If you are sick and tired of making the Big Money for others, you are welcome on deck, not everything is lost! In fact, soon you will discover how to escape this rat-race!!! Of course, already then I started to think about how to avoid this nightmare. I did not have a huge capital to start a business, in fact, I begun sinking under the debt burden. The only way out was to make money by using the Internet, bookmakers and my mind. And I threw myself into this infinitely dirty world full of lies! Day by day till far into the night I searched for any possible information on how to earn through bookmakers. I looked for articles, bought magazines, books, betting systems and software. For hours and hours I was browsing forums trying to find the golden thread that would open up an opportunity to earn money. And so every day, including weekends and holidays. My marriage almost broke down because She started losing patience!!! Straight away I have to say – I’m not a gambler! I have never been a gambler, and I hope I’ll never become one. Perhaps, this saved me from an utter breakdown… I was looking for a way how to make money, not the formula of luck or the right run of the right horse! During these two years I left only a couple of thousands £££ in bookmakers, and it was not because I blindly backed a horse or a football game! I spent this money on testing and trying out all the betting systems I bought. It was a costly lesson… I have experienced many situations when the author of a book did not even answer my e-mails after I had bought his betting system! They just don’t care!!! At the moment your money is transferred to their account, they are already hunting for the next victim, and you remain alone with your newly bought wonder… This is not a science fiction; this is what my life was like within two years! Do not think that lies are written only in the sales letters of these betting system products. If you see a book or a system review in some other web site, in 90 % of the cases the owner of that site will be interested in selling that product because he will gain commission fees from the seller of this product. That’s why you cannot believe these reviews, since they just won’t be objective! If you really want to get objective reviews of books, systems and programs, you can get them for free! Although I have found my unique approach to make money from full-time betting, I still buy a couple of betting systems every month just because I am interested In them. http://www.bettingbookweb.com/
